From a small circle of families gathering in Floriana to a recognised voluntary organisation, we exist for one purpose: that every member of the Bangladeshi community in Malta is welcomed, supported and proud of where they come from.

Who we are
A community institution, not a project
The Bangladesh Cultural Association In Malta grew out of the everyday realities of migration: a new language, unfamiliar paperwork, long working weeks, and the quiet wish to celebrate Pohela Boishakh or Victory Day among people who understand what those days mean. What began as informal gatherings in rented halls and living rooms in Floriana became a structured, accountable association with an elected committee, written statute and public registration as a voluntary organisation under number VO/1448.
Today the association is a first point of contact for hundreds of Bangladeshi residents, workers, students and families in Malta. We help people read a contract, find a doctor, understand a residence procedure, mourn a loss, or simply share a meal. We also work outward: bringing Bengali music, food, poetry and craft into Maltese public life, and encouraging our members to take part in the life of their towns and villages.
We hold two commitments equally. One is heritage: the language, festivals, dress and memory that our children deserve to inherit. The other is integration: real participation in Maltese society, in Maltese and in English, as neighbours rather than guests.
Cultural heritage
Bengali language sessions, national and seasonal festivals, music, poetry and culinary traditions kept alive in Malta.
Community support
Practical guidance, translation help, referrals and solidarity for members facing employment, housing, health or bereavement difficulties.
Integration & dialogue
Open events, cooperation with Maltese councils, parishes, NGOs and schools, and encouragement to learn Maltese and volunteer locally.

How the association took shape
The first gatherings
Families and workers meet informally in Floriana to mark Bangladeshi national days and to help newcomers settle.
A committee and a statute
Members elect a voluntary committee, adopt a written statute, and open transparent records of income and expenditure.
Public registration
The association is enrolled as a voluntary organisation in Malta under number VO/1448, accepting public accountability for its work.
Programs beyond festivals
Support services, language and integration workshops, youth activities and public outreach become year-round commitments.
Partnerships across Malta
Cooperation with local councils, NGOs, faith communities and employers widens the association's reach beyond Floriana.
What we do
Ongoing programs and initiatives
Every program below is run by volunteers, free of charge to members, and reviewed each year by the committee.
Cultural festivals
Pohela Boishakh, Victory Day, Independence Day, International Mother Language Day and seasonal cultural evenings open to all.
Integration workshops
Sessions on rights and responsibilities in Malta, employment practice, healthcare access, schooling and basic Maltese language.
Youth & family activities
Bengali reading and writing for children, sports and recreation days, and mentoring for young people in education.
Public outreach
Participation in local festivals and civic events, presenting Bangladeshi culture to Maltese audiences and the wider public.
Solidarity fund
Modest, transparently recorded assistance in cases of illness, bereavement, repatriation or sudden hardship.

Accountability
A non-profit that expects to be checked
The association is enrolled as a voluntary organisation in Malta under VO/1448. We keep a written statute, an elected committee, minuted decisions and records of income and expenditure. No surplus is distributed to members or officers; every euro serves the association's public purpose. Members and the public may request information about our governance and finances.
