About the association
Founded by the community, accountable to the community
We are a voluntary, non-profit cultural and community association registered in Malta under number VO/1448, with our registered address in Floriana.
Our founding vision
The association was founded by Bangladeshi residents of Malta who saw the same needs repeating: newcomers arriving without support, working people unable to read official correspondence, festivals passing unmarked, and children growing up with only a distant idea of their mother tongue. The founding members decided that goodwill was not enough — the community needed a permanent, transparent structure that would outlast any one individual.
That vision has not changed. We exist so that Bangladeshi heritage is practised rather than remembered, so that no member faces a difficult moment alone, and so that Maltese society knows our community through its culture, work and contribution.
Mission
To foster cultural exchange between the Bangladeshi community and Maltese society, to support the integration and welfare of Bangladeshi residents in Malta, and to preserve and transmit Bengali language, heritage and traditions.
Vision
A Bangladeshi community in Malta that is fully participating, culturally confident and mutually supportive, and a Maltese public life enriched by that presence.
Core values
Dignity
Every member is received with respect, regardless of status, occupation, religion, gender or length of stay in Malta.
Heritage
Language, festivals, music and memory are living practices to be passed to the next generation, not museum pieces.
Integration
Belonging in Malta and pride in Bangladesh are not in competition; we pursue both deliberately.
Transparency
Decisions are minuted, funds are recorded, and officers answer to the general meeting of members.
Voluntarism
The association's work is carried out by unpaid volunteers who serve because the community asked them to.
Non-partisanship
We do not act as an instrument of any political party in Bangladesh or in Malta.
Governance
Committee and office holders
The association is directed by an executive committee elected by the general meeting of members. Officers serve voluntarily and without remuneration.
President
Represents the association publicly, chairs the committee and safeguards the statute.
Vice-President
Supports the President, deputises when required and oversees program coordination.
General Secretary
Convenes meetings, keeps minutes and the register of members, and handles official correspondence.
Treasurer
Maintains accounts, records all income and expenditure and presents the annual financial statement.
Cultural Secretary
Plans festivals, language activities and cultural cooperation with Maltese partners.
Committee Members
Lead the support desk, youth activities, outreach and volunteer coordination.

Governance structure
How decisions are made
General meeting of members
The highest authority of the association. It elects the committee, approves the annual report and financial statement, and may amend the statute.
Executive committee
Elected office holders who run the association between general meetings, meeting regularly and recording decisions in minutes.
Sub-committees and volunteers
Working groups responsible for individual programs, reporting to the committee and operating within approved budgets.
Members
Any person who supports the objects of the association may apply for membership, attend general meetings and stand for election.
Looking ahead
Long-term strategic goals
- Establish a permanent community and cultural space in the Floriana area for classes, meetings and events.
- Deliver structured Bengali language and heritage classes for children on a regular timetable.
- Expand the community support desk with trained volunteers and clear referral pathways to Maltese services.
- Publish an annual activity and financial report for members and the public.
- Deepen formal cooperation with local councils, schools, NGOs and other cultural associations in Malta.
- Build a documented archive of the Bangladeshi community's history and presence in Malta.
