Programs & community initiatives

Eleven sessions a week.No auditions, ever.

Our programs sit across three pillars. They share a floor, a kettle and a rule: cost, ability and language should never be the reason someone doesn't come in.

Expressive Dance & Movement Therapy

Pillar one

Expressive Dance & Movement Therapy

Trauma-informed, allied-health-adjacent sessions for people managing chronic pain, recovery, grief, isolation or anxiety.

Sessions are led by Dr Amara Osei, a Dance Movement Therapist registered with the Dance Movement Therapy Association of Australasia, with a volunteer floor assistant in every class. Groups are capped at fourteen so nobody gets lost at the back.

Every exercise has a seated variation. Chairs stay in the circle for the whole hour, not stacked against the wall, so sitting down is never a retreat. We take referrals from GPs, physiotherapists and community mental health teams, and we refer out when someone needs clinical care we can't provide.

  • Wednesdays 10:00am – 11:15am · Gentle Movement (all ages, seated options)
  • Wednesdays 1:00pm – 2:15pm · Living With Pain (referral or self-referral)
  • Monthly Sunday 2:00pm · Movement for Carers, with supervised activities for the person being cared for

Fees: $8 per session, or free with a Health Care Card, DVA card or on request. No documentation required for a fee waiver.

Youth & Multicultural Arts Outreach

Pillar two

Youth & Multicultural Arts Outreach

For young people aged 10 to 24 across Keswick, Ashford, Mile End, Richmond and Plympton — especially those new to Australia.

Thursday nights are the anchor: two hours of Bharatanatyam, dabke, hip hop and whatever the group has brought back from home, taught by teachers from the communities the forms belong to. We pay our cultural teachers at professional rates; the knowledge is not a favour.

We run in-school residencies with three local high schools during terms two and three, and a monthly Kaurna-led yarning and movement circle facilitated through Kaurna Yerta Aboriginal Corporation. Transport from Keswick Interchange is arranged for participants who need it.

  • Thursdays 5:00pm – 7:00pm · Youth Collective (ages 10–17)
  • Thursdays 7:15pm – 8:30pm · Emerging Artists (ages 18–24)
  • Second Saturday monthly 11:00am · Yarning & Movement Circle
  • School residencies by arrangement — contact the office

Fees: Free. Always. Funded through donations, the City of West Torrens community grant and our annual showcase.

Community Workshops & Open Rehearsals

Pillar three

Community Workshops & Open Rehearsals

The front door of the organisation. No booking, no experience, no obligation to dance.

Sunday afternoons the hall is simply open. Some weeks it's a structured workshop with a visiting teacher; other weeks it's members rehearsing for the Spring Showcase while newcomers watch from the side with a cup of tea. Both are the point.

We also run one-off workshops through the year — Greek folk before Easter, dabke in August, an intergenerational session each school holidays where grandparents and grandkids learn the same steps badly together.

  • Sundays 2:00pm – 5:00pm · Open Rehearsal, every week except Christmas Day
  • Mondays 6:30pm – 8:00pm · Adult Beginners Contemporary
  • Saturdays 8:30am – 9:30am · Early Movers (parents and under-5s)
  • School holidays · Intergenerational workshop, dates on the noticeboard

Fees: By donation. A tin sits by the door; nobody watches it.

Not sure which one is yours?

Ring the office on a weekday and Jenny will talk it through with you — including access, transport, interpreters and fee waivers. Or just come to open rehearsal on Sunday and have a look first. Most people do.
