Transparency & governance

Public benefit, publicly accountable

We are a non-profit voluntary organisation. This page sets out, in plain language, how we are governed, how we handle money, and what the public may expect of us.

Public benefit charter

Our non-profit character

  • The association is a voluntary, non-profit organisation enrolled in Malta under Voluntary Organisation Number VO/1448.
  • The association is established exclusively for social, cultural, educational and community purposes that benefit the public and, in particular, the Bangladeshi community resident in Malta.
  • No part of the association's income or property is paid or transferred, directly or indirectly, to members, officers or volunteers by way of profit, dividend or bonus.
  • Committee members and volunteers serve without remuneration. Reasonable documented expenses may be reimbursed with committee approval.
  • Any surplus in a given year is retained and applied to the association's stated purposes.
  • If the association is dissolved, its remaining assets are transferred to another voluntary organisation with similar purposes, and never distributed among members.

Financial accountability

How funds are handled

Sources of income

Voluntary membership contributions, individual donations, event contributions, and occasional grants or sponsorships for specific activities.

Record keeping

All income and expenditure is recorded by the Treasurer with supporting documentation retained for inspection by the committee and the general meeting.

Authorisation of spending

Expenditure follows a budget approved by the committee. Payments above routine thresholds require the approval of two office holders.

Annual reporting

The Treasurer presents an annual financial statement to the general meeting of members together with the committee's activity report.

Restricted funds

Donations given for a stated purpose, including the solidarity fund, are applied only to that purpose and accounted for separately.

Regulatory obligations

The association complies with the reporting and compliance obligations applicable to enrolled voluntary organisations in Malta.

Governance transparency

Rules we hold ourselves to

Equal treatment
Services and membership are open without discrimination on grounds of religion, gender, political opinion, district of origin or social status.
Safeguarding and data protection
Activities involving children are supervised by designated volunteers, and personal data is handled in line with our privacy policy and applicable law.
Complaints
Any member or member of the public may submit a complaint in writing to the General Secretary and will receive a substantive reply from the committee.
Political neutrality
The association does not fund, campaign for or act on behalf of any political party in Malta or Bangladesh.

Commitment to public service

What the public may expect of us

Our events are open, our contact details are published, and our support services are offered without charge and without regard to a person's ability to contribute. We cooperate willingly with Maltese public authorities, schools and voluntary organisations, and we answer requests for information about our governance and finances. Where a need falls outside our competence, we say so and refer the person to a body that can help.
